The Sky Tower. I guess every big city in the world is required by international law to have some sort of tall observation tower in the middle. This was ridiculously expensive, so we enjoyed the view from the ground instead (and the view from the summit of Rangitoto). This tower also takes the tourist aspect to another level by offering a "sky jump" and "sky walk." That ring around the main observation area (and restaurant) is where people can do the "sky walk." The "sky jump," which sounded at first like a bungie jump, turned out to be little more than getting yourself lowered to the ground on a rope.

We also sampled the all-you-can-eat dim sum (known as yum cha(r) in New Zealand) at a restaurant in the Sky City center at the tower's base. As you probably guessed from the "all-you-can-eat" aspect (we didn't know that was the case when we sat down, since it's not buffet-style) it was not very good. Edible (unlike the buffet-style dim sum found in SLO), but definitely not recommended.
